We have a winner! Nearly 200 entries were submitted, and over 3000 votes cast; now, after much deliberation over the lucky 13 finalists, Laurent Garnier has picked the best ‘Gnanmankoudji’ remix from January’s remix contest.
The top slot goes to Sweden’s Andreas Saag, a name that might be familiar to you. Since 2000, he’s released on labels like Freerange and 4 Lux under the aliases Swell Session and Stateless. He’s also no stranger to the art of the remix, having done reworks for the likes of Shur-i-kan, Susumu Yokota, London Elektricity and High Contrast.
“I really love this song,” said Saag of Garnier’s ‘Gnanmankoudji’, “and I thought I’d make a jazz lesson rework out of it. I just had to take the opportunity when there were Laurent Garnier parts floating around in mid-cosmos!”
As the winner, Saag takes home a Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol X1 and a $200 Beatport gift card—and best of all, his remix will be released on the PIAS label. Here are the runners up, both the top-spun entries and Beatport’s own editorial picks.
