It was only a matter of time before one of Scotland's leading young techno producers burst onto the worldwide underground dance scene. His first release on Philadelphia's 'Worship Recordings' label in 2005 was only the beginning for this talented artist, as In 2008, Ritchie Hawtin's 'Minus' signed the massive 'consumed', and Gary has never looked back.

His deep but fresh quirky style is in demand from Glasgow, to Tokyo and all over Europe, and is well respected for the party atmosphere he creates. Gary can count on support from many of the biggest names in Techno, including Josh Wink, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Len Faki, Slam & Richie Hawtin.

Hi Gary, How are you?
I'm very well thanks, busy with new tracks and remixes!

When you started out to get the likes of many big artist like Richie Hawtin, Len Faki and more. How did this make you feel?
It was great to feel respected by artist's like Hawtin and Faki, as I have always loved their music. It was also very satisfying as I have worked very hard to get to the point where big respected DJs play my music.

What is the piece of equipment you can't go without?
My Microkorg.

Does traveling around the world, and seeing different clubs and people, influence your music at all?
Yes, it has a massive influence in my music. I feel I have been writing better music since I began to travel. It opens my mind a lot more seeing beautiful countries and amazing people.

When you sit down to make a track; do you do it all at once? Or are you more the "Ill do it whenever I'm inspired person?"
I normally do the whole track at once. I'm lucky as I can create a track very quickly...sometimes 2-3 hours. Some of my best material has been created in this timescale. I also choose to work sometimes in my local restaurant, as I don't want t spend ALL my time making music. Doing some work in a normal job helps me to create and be inspired...and keep my feet on the ground!

Do you have any lucky charms while you play/produce? (example: You NEED a chocolate bar before you start..;) )
Haha, no..although when I do produce at night..I'm partial to a bottle of nice chardonnay while I work! Sometimes this helps.

How would you describe your feeling when you make music?
I'm lost when I make music, time flies by very quickly and I'm unaware of what is going on around me. It's a great feeling. When I have my bottle of wine though, my feeling is normally drunk!

You released multiple records on different labels. Do you switch up your style for them, or is your sound the same no matter what label you're on?
Not really, I just create a track then think afterwords where would be a nice home for it.

Recently you were in the Netherlands for ON! Twice, how did you enjoy the time here?
YES, it was amazing. Great party with great passionate people. Couldn't really ask for much more.

ON! was an underground party with a select group of music lovers. Do you prefer a setting like this? Or do you enjoy bigger, more commercial events?
I'm more experienced playing for events like 'ON', and I really enjoy the intimacy of this kind of party.

The track 'Consumed' is well played in many clubs. How does it feel that your track is liked by so many people around the world?
Its great that the track did so well. It was an incredible feeling to see Hawtin play it on youtube for the first time. I had to pinch myself!

What is your ultimate goal in the in your music career?
I want to keep making music that people love, play in great countries and meet interesting new people who share an interest in the scene.

You have a very specific style, it's a little bit darker and quiet melodic. Are there any musical genres or artist that influenced your music?
I was always very influenced by darker house music producers, like DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, & Tony Thomas. I guess the progression of listening to Hawtin, Beyer & Slam helped me create a more 'driving' feel to the dark house music I loved.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any sneak-peaks?
More Gary Beck techno on some top labels which remains a secret! ;)..also a possible album of my classical down-tempo productions.

Would you like to share anything else with our readers?
Yes, I love Amsterdam and every person I have met there so far. I also love eating Swedish meatballs.
